In Rosario,
there is still a trading floor for agriculture commodities at the Rosario
Chamber of Commerce. Rosario is the
third largest city in Argentina
with 1 million people and the main ag hub because of the proximity to the grain
producing land.
While it was a slow day with limited trades because of a
drop in the US dollar, it was interesting to see the traders in their suits
mostly visiting and talking on their cell phones.
I was surprised to see that there was only one woman on the
floor.
I asked why. “Oh,”
said the man, “There are a few woman traders but this job is very stressful and
not one that most woman want.” But, he
went on to reassure me that there were many women working in more high up
administrative positions behind the scenes.
